Friederikes Pfannkuchen

Notice: This article is kept for historical reference. Some details may be outdated.

At today’s GAP Morgenkreis Online, the Thursday Friday class talked about Friederike’s German pancake recipe. Now you can make them at home too! Whether you call them Pfannkuchen (the official spelling), Pfannekuchen or Pfannenkuchen, they are just as delicious.

Zutaten (ingredients)

  • 1 Tasse Mehl (1 cup flour)
  • 2 Eier (2 eggs)
  • 1 Tasse Milch (1 cup milk)
  • etwas Butter (a bit of butter)
  • Zitronensaft und Zucker (lemon juice and sugar)

Anleitung (instructions)

Damit die Pfannkuchen besonders luftig werden, siebe das Mehl in eine Schüssel. (To make your pancakes nice and fluffy, sift the flour into a mixing bowl.)

Füge nun die Eier und die Milch hinzu und vermische alles mit einem Löffel oder Schneebesen*, bis ein glatter Teig entsteht. (Add the eggs and milk to the flour and mix everything together with a spoon or a whisk until the batter is smooth.)

*Isn’t Schneebesen a great German word?! It’s whisk, and translates directly as a snow broom!

Schmelze ein Stück Butter in der Pfanne bis es knistert und gieße dann eine Kelle Pfannenkuchen-Teig hinein. (Melt a bit of butter in a fry pan until it sizzles, then pour some batter in.)

Einmal wenden und fertig ist der goldbraune Pfannkuchen. (Turn your pancake over in the pan to cook the other side. It will be golden brown when it is finished.)

Serviere ihn mit Zitronensaft und Zucker. (Serve them with lemon juice and sugar.)

Guten Apetit! (No prizes for guessing the translation of Guten Apetit!)
