Pfadfinder

Uniforms, Scarves & Badges

Your Scout uniform

The Scout uniform is an important part of Pfadfinder. It helps children feel part of the group, celebrates their achievements and creates a shared identity across Scouts Australia.

This guide explains what your child will need, where to find it and how to care for it throughout their Scouting journey.

What you’ll need

Every child and leader wears an official Scouts Australia uniform shirt.

Uniform shirts can be purchased from the Scouts Australia Scout Shop, where youth shirts cost around $37. Alternatively, you may find second-hand uniforms through Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, local op shops or our own uniform pool. Families regularly donate shirts once children move up to the next section, making them available for others to use.

When your child is invested into Pfadfinder, they will also receive:

  • a Pfadfinder scarf
  • a woggle
  • their group badges

Looking after your scarf

Your Pfadfinder scarf is designed to stay with your child throughout their Scouting journey. Please encourage them to wear it each week, look after it carefully and keep it somewhere safe between meetings and camps.

To help us return lost scarves, please write your child’s name along the inside top edge, where the red and yellow sections meet.

Wearing your uniform

Our Pfadfinder scarves are worn with the red side over the right shoulder.

If you’re new to Scouting, these guides may help:

Some badges are designed for a camp blanket rather than the uniform. Any blanket regularly used for camping makes a wonderful place to collect camp and event badges over the years.

Moving up

As your child approaches their 9th, 12th or 15th birthday, please let your Group Leader know so we can organise their move into the next Scout section.

Children moving up will usually need a uniform shirt with the correct section colour.

One of Scouting’s long-standing traditions is passing uniforms on. If your child has outgrown their shirt, we’d love you to donate it back to our uniform pool so another family can use it.

If your family leaves Pfadfinder and no longer needs the group scarf, donations are also greatly appreciated.

Lost something?

Replacement items are available through the group.

  • Replacement woggle: $5
  • Replacement scarf: $30

Alternatively, you might enjoy learning the Friendship Knot, which many Scouts use instead of a woggle. Children are also welcome to make their own decorative woggles.
